About Us
Blue Elm was founded to server the MEDITECH healthcare community with technical
tools that are not widely available but are highly valuable to healthcare organizations. MEDITECH provides a fabulous and economical healthcare solution. We simply
make MEDITECH healthcare
systems better by providing cutting edge tools and solutions.
History
Founded in 1998 as part of Acmeware, Inc., Blue Elm was spun off as a product company
in 2001.
Our first commercially successful product DrAuditor was first created in 1999.
Since then DrAuditor has become the defacto standard for validating data in MEDITECH
based data repositories. DrAuditor is installed at over 60 MEDITECH sites
to date. In 2003, Blue Elm introduced OpenGate, an ADO.NET driver for running
directly against the MEDITECH (MAGIC and C/S) databases. OpenGate has proved
to be every bit as a commercial success as DrAuditor has been and more.
We pride ourselves in are a small company
and like to keep things that way as quality control is our number one concern.
All our programmers are highly experienced in MAGIC and NPR as well as Windows and relational databases.
President Bio
John Mackey worked for MEDITECH for 10 years. Starting in the MIIS (MUMPS)
group as a programmer/analyst, he took over the MIIS training classes within his
first year. John created the first HL7 interfaced used at MEDITECH, and wrote
the lower layer network and asynchronous protocols that are used by MEDITECH today
in NMI. In addition, John created the first patient monitor interfaces, insurance
verification interfaces, and a vast number of other interfaces at MEDITECH.
In additon, John was leant out to various MEDITECH groups as a technical resource.
After 10 years at MEDITECH, John founded with Glen D'Abate Acmeware, Inc.
Acmeware specialzied in data repository consulting. However, during Acmewre
infancy, it was realized that MEDITECH's data repository was not very reliable.
John developed DrAuditor to automate the tedious consulting task of verifying table
accuracy in data repository.
In 2001, Acmeware was split and John founded Blue Elm to take over the growing
number of DrAuditor customers. The number of DrAuditor customers quickly grew
to over 30. In 2003, John created OpenGate based on his
experience with interfaces and the dynamic need to pull data out of MEDITECH to validate data in data repository. OpenGate was originally created for internal use at Blue Elm. However, a number of vendors and sites found out about OpenGate
and were highly excited about the technology. Thus, Blue Elm made OpenGate commerically available.
